The Easiest and the Most Complicated Costumes to Pull Off This New York Comic Con

Posted by John

New York Comic Con will be taking place from October 11th to 14th at the Javits Center, and this year sets to be bigger and better than ever before. It’s time to dress to impress with Adam West, Bill Paxton, Sean Austin, Christopher Lloyd and Tom Felton all making an appearance, but what costume to wear?

At comic conventions around the world, cosplayers always try to outdo one another with complicated and innovative costumes, but isn’t there an easier way to look authentic? We have compiled a list of the most complicated and easiest costumes to wear to the event along with a top tip that will have you saving time, money and effort.

Most Difficult

Legend of Mana: Kathinja

Angel Season 5: Illyria
Just look at Kathinja and you know you are in for quite a chore. For one you have to create a 5-feet-long tail, transform your feet and hands, and then there are the snakes wrapped around your head. Not only is a Kathinja costume difficult to make, but it is also incredibly hard to wear as everything is blown out of proportion. But hey, it’s all in the name of cosplay. However, if you have the time and get it right, you will look amazing and many other cosplayers are sure to marvel at your attempt.
If Kathinja isn’t challenging enough, why not try your hand at re-creating Illyria’s look? Illyria’s hair and makeup are easy to do and once you pop in a pair of colored contact lenses, you will be well on your way to becoming the legendary Old One. The one thing that is difficult to replicate is her armor. You will need a skin-tight body suit, which will require you to strategically attach pieces of maroon-colored synthetic leather to it. You may want to paint the plastic leather to get the details of her armor just right and add other fabrics to the joint areas (shoulders, knees, elbows and forearms and hips).
After all this effort, you are sure to be pleased that you can wear it again for Halloween.

The Hulk
Catwoman and the Hulk are two of the most recognizable comic book characters and what makes them popular characters to dress up as is their costumes are easy to replicate. For Catwoman, a simple black leather body suit and some false cat ears are all that’s required. Whereas with the Hulk, all you will need is some green body paint and some long shorts that have been ripped at the hem. These are very simple costumes to create, but as they are so easy to make, will you receive all the attention you deserve?
Top Tip: The easiest way to look just like your chosen character, whether it is a Street Fighter or perhaps one of the Mario gang, is to see what is available to you on the Internet. AllFancyDress, which I work for, is one costume specialist that offers over 3,000 costumes and accessories ranging from video game personas to zombie characters, for both adults and children. The choice is colossal and to make it your own, all you will need to do is a little bit of tweaking here and there. The basis is there and all that remains for you to do is add the finishing touches.
